Opportunity Snapshot

Try a taste of this juicy challenge: let's say one of our clients has a truly exceptional career opportunity for a chemical engineer with experience in polymer synthesis. Our creative team has crafted a compelling message to tempt potential candidates -- now it falls to you to come up with four or five ingenious ways to get that message in front of this pinpoint demographic. If that challenge has your mouth watering, this role offers you the opportunity to innovate on a regular basis as a member of a recruitment team that sets the bar for innovation. Quick question for you - click here

This is a home-based role in a unique and flexible virtual workforce model that earned Decision Toolbox the Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility in 2009 (based in large part on our employees' responses to surveys). We're also wide open to your suggestions to make Decision Toolbox more effective. For example, we utilize advanced in-house technology (you're interacting with the tip of the iceberg here) and if you have a great idea for a tool or solution, we'll build it for you.

The Essentials

You'll join a team that includes another Media Strategist and in part we are adding this position because business is booming. But we're looking for far more than just another pair of hands. You'll leverage your experience, insight and creativity to help us stay on the leading edge of recruitment media strategy. In the interests of full disclosure, this role also has some not-so-sexy (but still important) aspects, such as posting ads on job boards.

Key objectives of this position include:
  • Collaborating with our team of Recruiters to strategize the best channels for advertising various career opportunities, across job boards, chat rooms, social networking sites and other places we haven't even thought of yet (but maybe you have!).
  • Ensuring we are utilizing optimal strategies around pay per click (PPC) advertising. Quick question for you - click here
  • Assessing our current media and advertising practices and recommending better ways to do things, such as monitoring and responding to ad performance.
  • Researching and evaluating new sites, tools and processes.
  • Performing quality checks on postings.
To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have:
  • Solid experience in a media planner/media strategist role and a demonstrated ability to innovate ways to get a message in front of specific audiences. Quick question for you - click here Experience in the recruitment space would be great, but we're also open to fresh insights someone from another industry might bring.
  • A track record of delivering measurable results, such as reducing ad costs or drawing an increased number of hits from a target audience.
  • Experience developing and optimizing PPC strategies.
  • Familiarity with keyword strategies.
  • A customer service mentality and a consultative approach (your customers will be our Recruitment Partners).
  • Intellectual curiosity, a drive to ask why? and what next? and the initiative to dig in and find out.
  • Obsessive attention to detail.
  • Experience with contract negotiations is a plus.
  • A degree is preferred but not required.

What's In It For You

Strategic innovation -- we'll look to you to think far beyond the job boards, combining a broad picture view with an unconventional approach in order to reach the best candidates. Once you're up to speed on this, you may help us brainstorm around other strategies, such as using web crawler technology to cull candidates from social networking sites.

Diverse challenges -- not every search we take on is for a highly specific candidate pool, but every search deserves highly specific strategy. You certainly won't be bored: you might support a search for a software developer specializing in mobile applications, a registered nurse with experience leading utilization audit teams, a cost accountant who knows the industrial construction business inside out, or many types of positions.

Great work environment -- in one sense your environment will be whatever you make it there in your home office. At the same time, there are great professionals -- results oriented, deeply experienced, creative and just plain fun -- and a remarkable virtual infrastructure just a few keystrokes away.

Flexibility -- this is a part time hourly role (with bonus potential) and we expect you'll put in 10 to 20 hours a week, depending on volume. While some of your hours will be structured, and we'll look to you to be "creatively available" (see the Thriving at DT tab), you will have a good degree of leeway in setting your schedule.

Support, recognition, and autonomy -- Decision Toolbox's culture is very employee-oriented, from providing tools and resources to taking a proactive approach to recognizing achievements. At the same time, as long as you are delivering results, we'll trust you to manage yourself for the most part.

Thriving at DT

Ours is a "virtual" environment -- everyone works from a home office (and occasionally Starbucks) -- and succeeding in that environment requires some special traits. For one thing, you need to have a high degree of self-discipline and a healthy respect for deadlines. For example, we tend to launch new ads Monday morning, although you may opt to place orders Sunday evening. You also will need to be "creatively available" in order to respond to urgent requests; those in similar roles often do so using a smart phone.

In addition you'll need to be proactive about building relationships and establishing your credibility with people via phone and email, people you've never met in person. You'll support a large team of recruiters with diverse personalities who are, in turn, supporting clients who have a range of needs and concerns. You also will partner with the creative team and others in Decision Toolbox.

We are a very dynamic company in which things change daily . . . literally. A flexible approach is important, but what is essential is your passion for "doing it right." Quality isn't a buzz word here -- it's our way of life, and if we find a way to do something better, we change it, whether it is our service offering, our website or our technology. If you share that passion for excellence, you'll be right at home here.

Other important keys to your success include:
  • Remaining flexible in jumping from a more reactive mode ("this needs to be posted NOW") to a more proactive, creative mode of thinking.
  • Learning new processes and technologies quickly and independently; you'll have support, but if you're looking for lots of training and supervision, this probably isn't the position for you.
  • Recognizing your internal contacts as customers and providing great service by being prompt, thorough, knowledgeable and highly organized.
  • Bringing a relentless capacity for critical thinking. Very little of this position is "mindless," and every detail counts.

Inside the Toolbox

Decision Toolbox is an unconventional recruiting company with a single focus: doing recruitment exceptionally well. Armed with the very latest tools and a team of seasoned US-based Recruiters and Sourcers, Decision Toolbox is an on-demand recruiting department for one critical search, for large projects, or a complete RPO solution.

For every project, DT deploys a Six Sigma inspired process that includes employment branding, aggressive candidate sourcing, comprehensive screening, on-boarding and the dedicated support of an experienced recruitment professional.

Decision Toolbox has taken a leadership role in almost every aspect of recruitment, introducing an RPO offering in 2000, four years before it became industry practice. DT is recognized as a "Thought Leader" by organizations such as SHRM, PIHRA, and the NHRA.

The company is 100% self-funded, with no debt, meaning all decisions are driven by our passion for smart recruitment and client satisfaction, as opposed to maximizing outsiders' return on investment.
